Over the past two weeks, we’ve been diving deep into Russell Brunson’s new book, Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers with the ultimate intent to learn key strategies for increasing our website traffic throughout a 30-day challenge.
Throughout the three years that we’ve been running our travel blog and content creation business, we’ve noticed that creating products or services isn’t ultimately the hardest part of online business. The challenge is to generate a product-market fit and find ways for potential customers to find your product or service! Unfortunately, many businesses fail due to the fact that they can’t find the right audience for their products. Traffic Secrets has been an eye-opening read since it has some very actionable tips for generating traffic that ultimately converts. Here are our 3 favorite takeaways from the book so far:
1. Develop Your Dream 100
Have you made a list of where your target audience gathers, either online or in person? Previously, we had identified maybe 15 different websites, communities, influencers and channels, but going through an exercise to identify 100 of them takes it to the next level! This allows you to develop strategies to put yourself in front of your audience and lead them to find your product or service.
2. Earned vs. Paid Traffic
Once you have your Dream 100, then you have two options for putting yourself in front of their audience: work your way in (earned traffic) and buy your way in (paid traffic). Each of these have their own benefits and drawbacks, but ultimately, the goal of both of these traffic types is to convert them into traffic that you own (by putting them on an email list, social media follow, etc).
3. Prospecting and Retargeting
Ads can and should serve different purposes, and you should tailor them to appeal to potential customers at different parts of the buying journey. Prospecting ads are those that introduce a cold lead to you and your product/service. The purpose is to generate awareness for your platform. On the other hand, retargeting ads are those that are used on the prospecting audience that clicked on your ad, and aims to get them to actually become interested in you, your product or service. Understanding what part of the funnel each member of your audience is in can help you identify what kind of ads you need to serve in order to be effective!
